Dyson V8 Review

You’ve heard of Dyson, right? It’s one of the most popular names in the industry with plenty of interesting, impressive products, including stick vacuums.

One of them is the cordless Dyson V8 Absolute stick vacuum.

Much like most Dyson vacuum cleaners, this one comes with pros and cons.

It has certain benefits that make it a good choice, but there are also some drawbacks.

It’s up to you to figure out if it fits your needs and preferences.

Still, choosing a new vacuum isn’t always as simple.

For this reason, in this Dyson V8 review we’ll discuss its features and specifications in detail, to help you decide if the Dyson V8 is right for you.

This Vacuum is For You:

  • If you have combined floors – Dyson V8 stick vacuum has a motorized cleaner head and a soft roller suitable for all floors. It performs equally as well on carpets as it does on hardwood and other bare floors. It can also tackle a dense carpet depending on how dirty it is.
  • If you need an easy-to-use appliance – if you hate struggling with bulky and heavy vacs, you should consider Dyson V8. This cordless vacuum is lightweight and easy to maneuver around different obstacles like furniture, stairs, etc.

This Vacuum isn’t For You:

  • If you want to clean large debris – though it offers excellent suction, its construction makes it somewhat unsuitable for large pieces and debris. Plus, it has a dust cup that would fill way too quickly if you were to clean large debris.
  • If you need long battery life – Dyson V8 Absolute offers about 20 minutes of continuous battery life, which typically isn’t enough run time for larger houses, offices, etc. While other Dyson vacs offer up to 40 minutes, this stick vacuum can’t perform for as long.

Features

Dyson is known for its convenient and useful cordless vacuums that are easy to use. Dyson V8 Absolute is no different, so you can expect excellent floor-to-ceiling cleaning with continuous suction. Though the battery life isn’t as long, it’s powerful enough to tackle different kinds of messes and dust.

The motorized cleaner head of Dyson V8 makes the vac easy to use in different flooring surfaces since it adapts to bare floors and carpets easily.

Design

This is a stick vacuum that’s compact, lightweight and easy to use. Cordless stick vacs are popular in the market due to their simplicity and maneuverability. Dyson V8 Absolute is easy to use and also to store away once you’re done with the cleaning.

Its controls are within hands reach, so you won’t have to bend as often as you would with other types of cleaners. On top of that, it’s ergonomically designed handle is comfortable and offers a good grip.

Size & Dimensions

It measures 9.8×8.2×46.4 inches in total while weighing some 4.5 pounds. As such, this stick vacuum is easy to use every day if need be unlike old-school bulky models. It’s compact and easy to store away, even if your storage space is limited.

The handheld version is that much smaller since it lacks the extension wand. All its attachments are also smaller to fit the overall design.

Suction

This one offers continuous suction power for the entire run time. You get some 20 minutes of battery life, and two modes to choose from based on the area you’re cleaning.

Suction power is at about 100AW in Max mode and somewhat less in the regular mode. There’s no loss of suction reported, even when the canister is full. If you do notice suction weakening, it might be due to some clogging that’s usually quite easy to clean.

Accessories & Parts

Dyson V8 Absolute doesn’t come with as many attachments as other vacs from the brand. This one has one motorized cleaner head that’s meant for both bare floors and carpets. It has stiff nylon bristles for carpets and soft roller with carbon fiber filaments for gentle bare floors.

The only other accessory you get is the combination tool. It’s designed for crevices and different tinier surfaces such as stairs, under and around furniture, etc.

Warranty

Dyson offers two years of limited warranty for original defects in material and craft. The warranty doesn’t cover commercial use, careless operation, repairs and alterations by unauthorized parties or agents, and normal tear and wear. In most cases, it’s best to make sure of the terms by reading the details on the manufacturer’s website.

Flooring

Some vacs are better for particular floors than others. For this reason, you should make sure the unit you have in mind fits the type of flooring you have at home. Luckily, Dyson V8 Absolute works well on all surfaces though it all depends on the amount and type of dirt.

Carpet

Its motorized cleaner head does most of the job while you steer and maneuver the vac. It has stiff nylon bristles to remove ground-in dirt from various types of carpets.

You’ll notice it performs better on area rugs and thinner carpets, through thick rugs shouldn’t be a problem either as long as they’re well-maintained and not too dirty.

It has bristles all over the soft roller to offer edge-to-edge cleaning that’s thorough and efficient.

Hardwood

You can shut the motorized head off when you move to hardwood and other bare floors. Since these are gentler surfaces, you want to make sure not to damage them with nylon bristles.

Instead, use the side with carbon fiber filaments that aren’t as rough and won’t damage the gentle area. These remove fine dust and hair from hardwood and bare floors with ease. Again, these soft bristles cover its full width.

Maneuverability

Though it doesn’t have swivel steering, the Dyson V8 Absolute is easy to use and maneuver with. You won’t struggle with working around furniture and different obstacles in your home.

Plus, it’s so compact and slim; you can fit it under your sofa, bed, and other pieces of furniture for some in-depth cleaning of hard-to-reach areas.

Maintenance

The Dyson V8 Absolute doesn’t require special maintenance. All you’ll have to do is keep its filtration system clean while also making sure there’s no clogging or any blockages.

Whatever else you feel that it requires maintenance, you should contact the manufacturer. If the unit is under warranty, tampering with it in any way might violate that deal.

As long as you keep the motorized head clean, and make sure to wash the filters regularly, the vac probably won’t require more than that.

If you’re concerned about the noise of your vacuum, that won’t be an issue with Dyson V8, as it does not belong to the category of loud vacuums.

Noise

Dyson V8 Absolute stick produces a somewhat standard level of noise. It’s not too loud to disturb the household or neighbors, but it’s also not noise-free.

People will hear it, but it’s nothing too much to handle, which is great. If you do hear higher noise, it might be due to a fault or clogging, so make sure to check if everything is alright.

Battery (Charge Time)

Dyson recommends 3.5 hours of charging time before you use the vacuum. For that, you get about 20 minutes of run time and maximum suction power to complete your cleaning tasks.

You can either plug it into the wall mount or plug it into a socket without mounting it. It depends on what’s more comfortable for you and if you have enough space for the wall mount.

Cordless or Cord?

Dyson V8 is battery operated and offers up to 20 minutes of battery life. There’s no hassle of having to work around a cord and power sockets in your home.

Though cordless vacuums are easier to work with and store away, you should make sure the battery is always fully charged for maximum run time. This way, you can take full advantage of the twenty minutes of battery life it offers.

Bag or Bagless?

Dyson V8 Absolute is a bagless stick vacuum that comes with a dust cup. The cup is easy to empty since it’s designed to prevent you from coming in contact with the dirt that’s inside. It’s also transparent, allowing you to see when it’s full.

Still, it’s a rather small dust cup you’ll maybe have to empty a few times depending on how dirty your floors are. If you have pets, you’ll probably have to make two or three trips to the trash can.

Filter

This cordless vacuum comes with a washable filter you can use throughout the entire life of this stick vacuum. It’s reusable, and as such, it’s more eco-friendly than other options on the market.

Pets

Dyson V8 Absolute stick vacuum is suitable for pet owners only if you use it as an addition to your full-size vacuum. It’s meant to maintain your house clean in between deep cleaning done by a more powerful unit.

Kitty Litter

We’ve already mentioned that this handheld vacuum isn’t the best option for picking up large debris. If the pieces aren’t as big, Dyson V8 Absolute might pick them up from bare floors, but only if they’re dry. You can find better options through our vacs for cat litter buyer’s guide.

Pet Hair

Its suction is strong enough to pick up pet hair from all kinds of floor surfaces. However, the dust cup is on a smaller side, so you’ll probably have to empty the hair frequently depending on how often you usually clean the area.

Additional Information

Something we have to emphasize in this Dyson V8 review is versatility, since this model is a convertible stick vacuum you can use as a handheld vacuum at any time. It converts with a single push of a button and is quite simple to use in tight areas and even your car.

Is The Dyson V8 For You?

Dyson V8 Absolute is for you if you live in a small to medium apartment or house and have a full-sized vac as well. While it does a fantastic job at picking up different dirt from all floor surfaces, its battery life is limited, and so is the dust cup capacity.

To summarize this Dyson V8 review, it is safe to say that this model is one of Dyson’s compact and powerful stick vacuums, ideal for maintaining your household clean in between weekly/ monthly deep cleaning.
