Choosing the best mop cleaner may seem simple, but there are a few things you should consider first. As you noticed, many different models are acting as more or less efficient cleaning solutions.
It’s important to think about things like mop heads and ease of use as well as maintenance. Take a quick look at our guide below to discover how to choose the best mop for tile.
The most important thing to pay attention to is the quality of performance. Some floor mops are more efficient than others, which is why it’s critical to consider how well each model can do its job.
When it comes to performance, you need to think about how well the mop can clean your tile floors. Tile isn’t as simple to clean as many people think, as it is important that the mop head can get to all the nooks and crannies.
Also, is the mop of your choice easy to store away and clean with? These are just a few things that can affect their overall performance.
Design plays a significant role when it comes to ease of use. Regular mops may not be as convenient, while more modern cleaning mops are designed specifically to complete the job with minimal effort.
Think about whether the design is comfortable to use for an extended period. Also, it should be designed to clean all areas with ease and without scrubbing.
Consider its weight as well, especially if you’re thinking about steam cleaning. A traditional mop is usually lighter, but think about if it can get to all the nooks and crannies of tile.
As you noticed, even best mops for tile aren’t as pricey. However, think about the mop pads and mop heads that the product comes with. If they’re disposable, you’ll have to continue buying them, which isn’t the most cost-efficient solution.
Think about your budget beforehand so that you can narrow the list of choices as much as possible. It should help you choose the best mop for tile floors within your budget.
The last thing you want and need is to scrub the tile floors while on your knees. For this reason, think about the features that come with the mop of your choice and whether they add anything to its performance. Although many people run from scrubbing, it’s still the most effective method.
Steam devices usually come with plenty of attachments and tools that make their performance more versatile. These are handy accessories, but they’re only efficient when well-made.
When it comes to steam products, you should also consider the tank. Some machines separate dirty and clean water, allowing you to clean more efficiently and easily.
Also, does your mop for tile come with a mop bucket? If so, make sure that the bucket has wheels and is lightweight enough to be easy to move. Most modern buckets have hygienic draining systems so that you don’t have to touch the dirty water.
Ease of Use
This is a huge factor, especially if you have plenty of bare floors to clean. Mops that are considered simple to use have easy-to-clean cleaning mads and mop heads that are equally as simple to replace. The wringing process is usually also effortless.
A steam device shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds to warm up. Steam control is another thing that adds even more to its overall simplicity and ease of use.
In most cases, the mop pole/handle is the most common part that breaks after a while. For this reason, look for a stainless steel handle that’s durable and can take rougher use.
Other parts should be equally as durable. If you’re looking for a mop bucket, make sure that it’s made of durable plastic that won’t dent or break as easily. All the mop pads should be machine washable and long-lasting as well.
Mop head design is critical as it can make a mop more or less convenient to use. A traditional mop with long fibers is usually simple to clean tight areas with. However, mops that have wide cleaning heads typically can’t get to those areas.
Another convenient option is a mop with a triangle head. This type of mop head gets to all the edges and corners and is usually relatively small.
The most important thing to consider is whether the dirty water goes back inside the clean water tank. This is the type of design you should avoid when it comes to steamers.
Steamers come with different tank capacity, but this is something you should choose based on your needs and preferences. In most cases, they’re relatively small, and you’ll have to refill them at least once when cleaning.
Some traditional mops come with buckets, while others are sold separately. If you’re buying a bucket, you should choose a durable one. It should be made of durable materials that aren’t easy to break or scratch.
Also, look for a mop bucket with wheels and a wringing system so that you don’t have to touch the dirty water.

Disposable mop pads sound like a great idea because they eliminate the need for maintenance. However, they’re not the most eco-friendly solution since you’d constantly throw them in the trash. This isn’t the most cost-efficient solution, either.
Some mops come with both disposable and reusable mop pads. It’s convenient to have both types for different tasks but try to avoid using disposable ones that you can’t wash.
Types of Mops
As you noticed from our reviews, there are quite a few different mops on the market. Some are more efficient than others, although that usually depends on your needs and preferences.
The first thing you should do is learn a little about each type so that you can figure out which would be the best for your case. Take a few minutes to discover the most popular types of mops below.
This works like a big broom for sweeping paper, dust, and different types of trash. You’re meant to do it before you wet mop the surface.
It’s a useful tool, especially when you think about how much cleaning time it would take you for an area with a broom and a dustpan. Dust mops are lightweight and easy to maneuver, even in large buildings, shopping centers, and warehouses.
A sponge mop is uniquely designed, featuring a sponge at the end of a cloth or a pad. The sponge is usually large enough to absorb lots of liquid – typically more than any other mop type.
It’s an excellent solution for large areas as well as small cleanups and spills. However, it’s a bit tricky to maintain since you have to clean it after each use so that it doesn’t develop bacteria.
Strip mops are quite efficient and versatile since you can use them dry or wet. When dry, a strip mop is ideal for dusting as the strips can collect a lot of dust without spreading it furthermore.
When wet, a strip mop works pretty well in smaller areas. It usually doesn’t have a large head, so you may struggle to clean large surfaces. Keep in mind that some mop heads are washable, while others are reusable.
String mops are somewhat similar to strip ones. However, this is the type that people usually think about when they picture a traditional mop.
In most cases, this one comes with a bucket system that’s either modern or a bit more traditional. It’s simple to use by just placing the mop into the bucket and wringing it out. It reaches all places and is quite efficient on stubborn stains.
A spin mop also comes with a bucket and has a similar concept as string mops. However, the bucket included usually has a foot pedal or a hand pedal that serves to wring out the water and cleaning solution. The spin mop system is simple to use, leaving the mop with a perfect level of moisture in it.
Even though a spin mop is not the largest option, you can still use it for medium-sized areas.

Steamers have cleaning solution tanks that dispense the solution when you press a button on the mop. The solution sprays out, while the cleaning head spreads it across the surface.
The system is easy to maneuver and it takes away the manual process of applying the solution. However, different models work in a somewhat similar way. These come with mop pads that are usually washable.
Microfiber mop pads have the tremendous absorbing ability. Arguably, they can absorb even more than sponge mops, although they’re built similarly.
They look the same, but there’s a difference in the mop head. In this case, it’s made of microfiber and is much easier to clean than a sponge. Microfiber mop pads are almost always washable, which makes them cost-efficient and eco-friendly.
A static mop is a variation of the dust mop. It has the same design, but with microfiber instead of bristles at the end. The key is in the static that microfibers carry.
The mop is used exactly the same as a dust mop and is quite efficient in picking up dust and debris into a dustpan. It allows you to remove both small and large particles with ease.
Flat mops are among the most popular to clean small stains. It features a pad that you can use wet or dry, depending on the kind of dirt you’re dealing with.
Most pads that come with these mops are washable, which allows you to reuse them. They’re designed to tackle smaller areas that don’t require much cleaning. Although flat mops are simple to use and store, they’re not the most efficient for heavy-duty floor cleaning.
Tile Mopping Guide
The first thing you should do is commit to a cleaning routine. Regular cleaning makes it easier to complete the job each time you have to do it again. Mop the floors regularly so that the dirt doesn’t build up. Use a dry mop or a vacuum to remove the debris before wet mopping.
It’s essential to have a cleaning plan when it comes to mopping. You should clean from back to front so that you ensure you end at the door. Failing to do this might require you to walk across the surface you’ve just cleaned.
It’s equally critical to choose the best mop head for the floor types you have. Tile floors are simple to clean with nearly every mop pad, but mops for hardwood flooring are somewhat different. Think about this if you have more than one type of bare floor.
If you’re using a cleaning product, use only a little bit. Too much detergent might make your tile look hazy after a while. Also, some cleaning products may be too harsh for the job.
You should remember to change the water frequently as well. Although it can be a bit tiring, it’s quite critical to work with clean water only. If it’s dirty, it may make an even bigger mess.
Finally, allow your tile floors to dry before placing any area rugs or throws.

Can I use soap solutions with steam mops?
A: In most cases, steamers come with a built-in water tank for regular or filtered water. What’s important to remember is that you don’t need anything else but water when using most of them.
Even if you do decide to use a cleaning product, stay away from soap solutions. Other chemical-based products are also not recommended as they can damage your floors as well as the machine.
The safest thing to do is use the steam mop per instructions. Read them before using the mop for the first time.
Is steam safe for grout cleaning?
A: Using a steam mop shouldn’t be any real danger to grout. However, did you know that you should reseal your grout annually? This is the main issue that causes steam cleaners to make a mess out of grout.
Unless you seal the grout each year, it will begin to look dirtier nearly every time you try to clean it with a steam mop. Luckily, sealing your grout isn’t as complicated as most people will tell you. You can make a quick DIY project out of it or pay a professional to help out.
How can I remove stains on my tiles?
The best way to remove stains from tile floors is by using a 50/50 blend of scouring powder and warm water. Rub the blend that you made onto the stain using a clean cloth.
Let the mixture sit for about ten minutes before scrubbing it off using a soft brush. Also, remember to rinse the area so that you remove all the residue of the cleaning mixture.
Other DIY cleaning mixtures might also be efficient. However, always test them out on a remote part of your flooring.
Are homemade cleaners safe?
A: Homemade cleaners are healthier to use since they don’t contain any harsh chemicals. This is a great way of controlling the amount of chemicals you and your family are exposed to. In some cases, these blends are safe to use on different surfaces. They’re also quite useful when it comes to cleaning the kitchen and bathroom.
Vinegar is the most commonly used ingredient for DIY cleaning blends. However, although it can make your tile flooring look sparkly and shiny, it might not be strong enough to tackle the bacteria that’s built-in.
Homemade cleaners should be safe, but that usually depends on the particular solution you want to use. Also, tile grout tends to collect a lot of bacteria and grime that’s too concentrated for homemade solutions to remove.
This is best cleaned with a specialized cleaning product that’s usually stronger than any homemade cleaner you can make. For this reason, making a DIY cleaner may just be a waste of ingredients.
On the other hand, some homemade solutions could be too intense for tile floors. Using lemon and other acids might damage the delicate film, leaving your floor looking grayish.
How to get rid of mildew on tile flooring?
Mildew usually shows up in kitchens and bathrooms because of the excessive moisture and dampness. It tends to happen if you don’t vent enough after using the shower or if you leave the floors wet in a closed room.
One of the most efficient ways of removing mildew is by using a 50/50 blend of ammonia and water. Remember to wear gloves and apply the mixture in a well-ventilated room because of ammonia.
Scrub the area using a gentle brush and the solution you made until you remove all the mildew.
Is microfiber mop the best choice for tile floors?
A: Microfiber is definitely among the best choices for tile floors. Its power is in the small strands that are smaller in diameter than strands of silk. In most cases, the microfiber threads are split even more.
This allows microfiber mops for tile floors to grab even the tiniest pieces and debris, holding onto them until you rinse the mop head. Also, microfiber has great absorbing abilities, which makes it ideal for high-traffic areas, spills, and quick cleanups.
Once the threads collect the moisture, it doesn’t leave the threads until you squeeze them. This is ideal for high-traffic areas that require often mopping.
How can I clean my tile mop?
A: One of the best ways of keeping your mop clean is by rinsing it after each use. Once you’re done using it, rinse the dirt and the cleaning solution until the mop is entirely clean. Unless you do this, the leftover dirt will spread the next time you use it.
Also, any residue of the cleaning solution may damage the mop pad. This is why it’s vital that you wash it. Wash it in the machine if it’s safe. Read the instructions on how to do this safely. If it’s not washable in the machine, soak it for at least 15 minutes.
Let it dry completely before storing it away. Storing a wet mop will allow it to develop bacteria that you’d then spread across your floors the next time you use it. Wring it and let it air dry outside if possible. Sunshine does a great job of drying the mop quickly while killing the bacteria.
If you can’t dry it outside, let it sit upright in your bathtub or any well-ventilated room. Once it’s dry, store the mop in a dry and cool place. If possible, you should hang it so that the mop head doesn’t touch the floor.
How do I break-in a wet mop?
A: You should first fill a bucket with water (120°F to 140°F) and a diluted neutral floor cleaner. Soak the mop head for about five seconds so that it absorbs as much of the solution.
Wring and rinse it as best as you can. However, it’s not enough to do this just once. You should repeat the process a few times, depending on how stiff the fibers are. In most cases, it takes three to five times to break-in a wet mop.
Once you’re happy with how it looks and feels, you should dispose of the solution. Prepare a fresh blend of water and cleaning product before cleaning the floors.
At this point, you probably chose the best mop for tile floors in your home. If not, you should return to our reviews and buyer’s guide because we’re sure that there’s a mop for everyone.
Think about the type of mop that would work the best for you. Consider whether you need washable mop pads, or you’d be happier with a disposable mop head. It may not seem like a big difference, but some people find one more convenient than the other.
Regardless of the model you choose, pay special attention to maintenance. Clean your mop pads and store the mop away so that it doesn’t touch the floor. The mop head should be dry when stored away to prevent bacteria development.
